Fake drug inspectors on the prowl, Delhi chemists alerted
Our Bureau, New Delhi | Thursday, September 23, 2004, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Retailers and Distributors Chemists Association of National Capital Territory of Delhi (RDCA), the state body affiliated to All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) is perhaps the only association in the country that has attempted to circulate the photographs of "original" drug inspectors who are in charge of their respective regions. The pro-active decision of RDCA has come after two persons were arrested for posing as drug inspectors and moving around the state, extracting "bribes" and "collecting fines" from the retail chemists.

The recent issue of the RDCA bulletin has photographs and contact details of all the drug inspectors in the state. The association has also given in detail the responsibilities of each drug official and the area he represents. The RDCA decision came after the Delhi Police arrested two persons within a time span of just 15 days on complaints of cheating and threatening chemists.

According RCDA office bearers, they decided to publish the photographs of the drug inspectors as a precautionary measure. Though Delhi has been in the news for undesirable incidents like spurious drug trade and fake drug approvals, this is the first time that complaints of fake drug inspectors have arisen.
